December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day coincides with the sad anniversary of the death of 14 women who were tragically killed on December 6, 1989 at l'École Polytechnique in Montreal.

Beyond commemorating the loss of these fourteen young lives, this day represents a time to pause and reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society.

Sandie Bellows was abducted in front of a bank in St. Catharines, by an dangerous offender who had already raped and stabbed a girl to death in London, and went to Toronto and brutally beat a man to death (he died 24 hours later). He then travelled to St. Catharines where she was abducted in broad daylight, while 4 people watched and chose to do nothing. Sandie was driven all over until he agreed to let her go. The man then he drove into a wooded area where she was brutally raped, stabbed, beaten and almost murdered. Sandie was rescued by a retired policeofficer who was hauling logs in his wooded area.

Jennifer Pasquale is a Prevention Education Specialist with HAVEN, a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention and Treatment Agency in Oakland County, Michigan. She is an International Motivational speaker who has traveled to over 25 countries conducting seminars, workshops and promoting healthy lifestyles & relationships. Jennifer received her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis on Human Studies from Belford University and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Social Work.

Jennifer is a vibrant and energetic communicator whose message will grip the hearts of all audiences. She is the mother of three daughters, one of whom is a survivor of intimate partner violence. Jennifer frequently shares her testimony as a mother who had to watch from a distance, but love from every angle in order to see her daughter restored to emotional and physical health. She is the author of the book, "Memories & Milestones, Stepping Forward by Looking Back." Jennifer thoroughly understands and relates to the many diverse challenges facing young women today. Jennifer is the founder and CEO of BraveHeart Girls, a non-profit international organization that supports young women of all cultures and backgrounds.
